“cinematography is still a sort of
graphic art. Through its mediation
I write for images…. I show what
the others say”
Jean Cocteau
I was born in Rome in 1978.
Since I was a child, I’ve spent many hours sketching and painting together with my mother.
I think everything started from there.
My love for creativity, my need to tell stories and emotions.
Very soon, I found out that computer graphics was the best way to express my creativity. When I was 16, I worked on the concept and realization of 3d full motion video of “Black Viper”, a videogame distributed by Neo Software. It was my first unconscious film direction and my first satisfactory outing as a 3d graphic artist. Since then, I’ve been increasing my work experience in the field.
My studies were both in Computer Graphics and Cinematography. This dual path was really important because the CG studies gave me the possibility to express myself, and the cinematography led my mind to understand the secrets of communication. In 1997 I discovered the editing art. I was shocked by its power. Mainly, I came across an unknown dimension that taught me the ways to direct the audience’s feelings. It’s fundamentally simple but incredibly powerful. It’s a real and subtle art.
In 1999, I set up Dreamlike Visions postproduction company together with Marco Genovesi. I’ve known Marco since I was born, so it’s natural that we actually think with the same frame of mind. Many times, we don’t need to speak to understand each other.
In recent years I’ve been editing short films, documentaries, commercials, corporate videos and, obviously, my first film directions. In 2003, I won a best editing award for a short film I had edited for an emergent italian film director. In 2004, with the editing of the documentary “Corale” directed by F.Taviani, I won “the best documentary” award at “Men and Trains” festival, in Lille (Fr).
My coming to film direction didn’t follow such an easy path. It arrives after years of studying, deepening and collecting work experiences. But it especially came after the suggestions, teaching and sporadic pressure of Alfredo Angeli, my true master.
Years ago, he saw farther than me.
Over these years, I’ve also specialized in film animation, studying and learning from the works of huge American directors such as John Lasseter and Andrew Stanton.
to communicate,
to make people think are definitely my aims.
In a music video clip, in a documentary, in a movie. But also during the 30 seconds of a commercial.
